These questions have been prepared by collecting information from several friends and also by searching on various sites and forums on Internet. In general, I have heard from my friends that F2 VISA interview process is not difficult and not many questions are asked from F2 visa applicants. So these questions are just for good preparation and building self-confidence. If some question is not clear, or you want a suggestion for answers for any questions, please leave a comment, I will try my best to give you “just a suggestion”.

I just need know that if I get the F2 dependent visa than how can I work or is there any legal obligation to work in us on F2 dependent visa.
I heard that after reaching to US, I can apply EAD on F2 Visa or how can I change obtain work visa if I have F2 visa.
Need your assistance.

As far as I know, I can tell that nobody on F2 is allowed to work in any way. However, I am not expert, these are just my experiences. For better information, you can look at some sites like http://murthyforum.atinfopop.com or immihelp.com .

what could be my reason for not traveling with my spouse when he left
September 26, 2010 at 4:25 pm
Lucky
Well, there may be many reasons. For example: 1) you wanted to spend more time with your family, 2) your spouse had to leave early because of his/her work, 3) you had to take care of some important stuff, because of that you could not leave early with your spouse, 4) You had to finish your studies (if applicable), 5) You may also have some medical reason.
But I would suggest it is better to be genuine and tell the right reason if possible, and generally they really do not care much why you really did not leave with your spouse.

Prakash, Although I am not an expert on this, but based on my experiences, I can say I have seen people who were previously working in USA, and then they switched to F2. So I would say that you getting f2 is possible.

Hi, I have F2 intrvw in just couple of days, what wud be good answer for : What wud your spouse do after finishing his study?
October 27, 2010 at 9:24 pm
Lucky
One probable answer could be that your spouse has a family in your home country to take care of, so after finishing his studies, you and your spouse would go back to your home country. I know that this answer is not really true generally, (certainly there are exceptions), but you should be confident while giving this answer. Anyway one on F1 visa is assumed to return back home after its duration (including OPT period).

When I see a good blog post I go ahead and do one of three thing:1.Forward it to the relevant friends.2.Bookmark it in all of the favorite social bookmarking sites.3.Be sure to return to the same website where I came accross the post. After reading this article I am seriously thinking of doing all 3!

Hi, im on an F1 visa, i will start my Masters Degree in January 2011, i want to bring my wife and kid with me but i need ideas on how they will get here. which do you think is best for them to apply? f2 visa or guest/tourist visa? because i’m thinking f2 would be denied easily due to the fact that i can’t work right away. thanks for you suggestion in advance…

If you are on f1 visa, its better if your spouse gets f2 visa. As per my experience, f2 visa is one of the easiest visas to get. There is no relation between f2 visa and your eligibility to work. On f1, you can only work on campus during semesters, and no one on f2 visa is allowed to work. My suggestion is that you should apply for f2 for your spouse.

lucky what im tryin to say is that if i’l apply f2 for them, as a student i can’t work yet,so the consul might think how will i able to support them while they’re here? What im thinking right now is try to get them tourist visa first, and if they got it, they can just adjust their status when they get here without any interview. But getting a tourist visa in my country Philippines is very hard, is F2 easier to get?

Your concern is right. I would like to ask that are you getting any scholarship or any other source of funding from the university you are going to join? If yes, then you can show those funds or some existing funds that you may already have to show support for your family. In my experience, it does not matter whether you are working or not, as far as you can show that you have enough money to support your family for entire duration of your MS course. Also (again this is just my experience) that I have seen several students coming to USA with their spouse, so its my assumption that getting F2 may be easier. But I am not expert so you can check in other relevant forums regarding this.

i’am them one paying for my tuiotion but my aunts are the one who gave an affidavit of support when i applied for the f1 visa,so i need another affidavit of support form for them to fill up for my spouse and son then right? will i show my bank statement here also?because i have money given by my parents before i came here for my study. or they might think im working ilegally because i have a bank account here in the US?
November 21, 2010 at 3:49 pm
Lucky
Yes, you need to show another affidavit of support for your family. Every student has bank account in US, but that does not mean that student is working illegally in US. So you can also show the money given by your parents as a support for your family.

alright, one thing more. i got an i-140 approval on eb3 category though, waiting for change of status when visa becomes current.wouldn’t be that a ground for them to be denied?i mean, will it appear on the database of the consul who will interview them? because we must go home after my course, but it wouldn’t be the case because we will wait for my visa priority date and file for green card when visa becomes current on the eb3 row.

My wife is working as a research associate in USA (J-1 visa holder). She join the job in Dec, 17, 2010. While she applied for visa, we were not married. But by december, 2010, our family planned for our marriage. So we got married on 12/12/2010 and she left India to join her job on 16/dec/2010.
On 9/feb/2011, I appeared for J-2 dependent visa interview at US consulate, Chennai. I was asked the following questions and the visa application was rejected.
1. How me and my spouse are known to each other and when we met first?
Ans: Me and my wife are third generation relatives, but being converved family and brought up in different places, we met only by last November, 2010 when our parents arranged for a wedding.
2. Show the album and invitation card.
Ans: I showed the counsellor both album and invitation.
3. What is your wife doing in USA?
My wife is doing her research in so and so university in USA. She is a Ph.D holder
4. Say about your profession?
I am waiting for my Ph.D public defence and working as a research associate in University in India.
Here i have not ment the institute names for our privacy concern.
After this the US visa counsellor gave a white slip stating that the visa applicant did not convience the counsellor and the visa can not be issued at this moment.
Please suggest me what I have to do. whether i can apply for J-2 visa again, if so when i have to apply again. And why the counsellor was not conveinced.
Whether these could be the reasons,
My wife was the sponsor, and she joined her join only 2 months back, her visa is valid till december/ 2011.
orelse
My answers was not conviencing
orelse
Is my profession did not gave the counsellor, back home return garentee.
We are newly married couple, we need to atleast spend couple of months to understand each other. So please suggest me how could i get the J-2 visa.
Thank you

Hi,
I’m not an Indian citizen, I’m actually a Canadian citizen (born and raised here) and study medicine in USA.
Canadians I know do not require a F1 visa, so I’m a bit unsure as to how I should apply for my husband’s F2 visa. Does anyone have some advice?
I won’t actually get my passport stamped until the day I depart for the US, which I did last year as well, and it was valid for my studies. I have to go again for my rotations now so have to apply again when I reach the airport. But I don’t know how I should go about applying for my husband.
Any advice would be great. 🙂
